The Sunday Night #MedicaidMassacre

Late on Sunday night, in an unusual and controversial move, the House Budget Committee narrowly advanced President Trump's massive "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," setting the stage for sweeping policy changes affecting millions of Americans.

What’s in the Bill?

The budget bill is a sprawling 1,100-page proposal, combining extensive tax cuts and substantial reductions in essential public programs:

  • Tax Reforms: Making the 2017 Trump-era tax cuts permanent, policies that critics say disproportionately benefit wealthy Americans and corporations.

  • Spending Cuts: Proposing $1.5 trillion in cuts over ten years, primarily targeting Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). These cuts would impose strict job loss penalties (problematically referred to as "work requirements") on Medicaid recipients beginning in 2029 and shift significant SNAP program costs onto states.

Changing User Interface Soon!

Hi all,

Just wanted to send a quick update that we're aware the user interface for Justice Junction has been a bit clunky and we will be moving to a more user-friendly interface soon. So, you will see a change in how the Junction is structured and, hopefully, an improvement in how you interact and engage with it and each other. So look forward to those changes! If there is anything else you would like to see on here please don't hesitate to let us know.

Also, check out our collectives page if you haven't already:

Collectives are community-driven spaces where people come together around shared commitments to racial and disability justice. Each Collective is connected to one of our Toolkits—living resources designed to help communities not just understand systems of oppression, but actively challenge and transform them. By joining a Collective, you’ll find collaborators, share lived experience, co-create tools,…

Introduction Post

ree

Hello everyone! My name is Timotheus "T.J." Gordon, Jr., and it is a pleasure to be in Justice Junction! I am an autistic researcher-advocate, speaker-consultant, and multimedia artist who uses my passion for creative arts, writing, and self-advocacy to address autism and race, inclusion in communities of color, exploration of sexuality in the disability community, coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health emergency services, and more. I am more than happy to provide my services and insights through writing, presentations, or consultations on any of these topics. In fact, I am working on launching a multimedia & consulting company where I do more work outside of my day job; more to come soon (I promise)! Op-Ed Link

Hope this is okay to post here -- my Op-Ed was finally published in the Worcester Telegram and Gazette today:

https://www.telegram.com/story/opinion/columns/guest/2025/05/04/opinionguest-column-kennedy-trump-not-helping-disabled/83371454007/

I had a originally written it last month right after RFK Jr.'s initial statements so some info is a little behind - more has happened since. It did get posted to the newspaper's facebook page and it went about how you'd expect from the facebook crowd but hopefully someone somewhere got something out of it? Naturally some people are going to think the op-ed is thing spreading misinformation but I included links that back up what I said. And non of it as a lie.

Get Involved in Protect Medicaid

Want to get more involved in Medicaid advocacy? Over the years I hear from a lot of young folks and people working on the ground that it is hard to find/connect with the larger community, movement, organizing around the issues they care about most. We are hoping that Justice Junction can be a space to help bridge this gap by folks making new posts to share the spaces they know about.

Recently, someone mentioned to me the work around Protect Medicaid that Caring Across Generations has been leading and I've joined several of their calls now. They have been organizing some amazing stuff! I'm linking resources below in case this is something you want to get more involved with.
